The Belorussian international Alexander Hleb, who completed his switch to Barcelona from Arsenal last week, gave an interview to Sport Express, the first in the Russian language as a Barcelona player. "My introduction as a Barcelona player turned out to be different from what happened with Arsenal", said Hleb. "Of course Arsenal is a great club, but there was more public excitement in Spain." |

Sunderland completed the deal with signing Teemu Tainio. The pair were on Wearside on Tuesday undergoing medicals, which 28-year-old Finland international Tainio, Sunderland's first close season purchase, passed. Sunderland manager Roy Keane is also targeting two other Tottenham players - Steed Malbranque and Younes Kaboul - the Black Cats boss met the pair to discuss a move to the north east over the weekend. |

Sebastian Vettel was the quickest man in action for the second consecutive day as testing continued at Jerez. He clocked a fastest lap of 1m 18.843s.Vettel completed 100 laps as he carried out preparatory work for the forthcoming Hungarian Grand Prix. Vettel covered 94 laps and focused his attentions on aero testing and mechanical work in the STR3. Paffett, meanwhile, completed 80 laps in the MP4-23. Third fastest was Luca Badoer for Ferrari. |

Richard Gasquet began his bid to reach his second Toronto Masters final in three years with a victory over fellow Frenchman Michael Llodra. In other first-round matches, Swiss ninth seed Stanislas Wawrinka defeated Italy's Simone Bolelli. Britain's Andy Murray, seeded eighth, has a first-round bye. Serbia's Novak Djokovic is the defending champion. |
